PRP for Hairloss
PRP therapy has been used since the 1980s for healing injured ligaments, muscles and tendons. Recently, it has been used to trigger natural hair growth by increasing the blood supply to the hair follicles and increases the thickness of the hair shaft.
PRP starts with a blood draw. The blood is placed in a centrifuge, which separates fluids based on their density. After about 10 minutes, the platelet rich plasma is then drawn up and injected into areas where hair loss has occurred.
Is it safe? By using your own blood, you are not at risk for communicable diseases. However, there are is always a risk with any procedure. These are: infection, injury to nerve or blood vessel, calcification at injection site, scar tissue.
PRP usually consists of 3 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart, and then maintenance treatments every 4-6 months.
